General Information on Sex Crimes
A sex crime can be any number of crimes which have a component of sexual activity, even those where the "victim" was never touched, or may even have consented to the act. Often the ramifications of suffering a conviction for a sex crime came be long-lasting and life-alterning, given the social stigma attached and he potential for having to register as a sex offender. - Lewd Conduct in Public (PC § 647): Engaging in an act involving the public touching of genitals, buttocks, or female breasts with knowledge that someone else is present who might be offended by the conduct.
- Statutory Rape (PC § 261.5): Having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 18, if the parties are not married, even if the minor consents or initiates the intercourse.
- Lewd Acts with a Child (PC §288 ): Touching a child who is 15 or younger for the purpose of sexual gratification.
- Sexual Battery (PC § 243.4 ). The touching another person’s "intimate parts" for the purpose of sexual gratification without that person’s consent, or abuse,
- Rape (PC § 261): Non-consentual sexual intercourse.
- Spousal Rape (PC § 262 ): Non-consentual sexual intercourse with one's spouse.
- Oral Copulation by Force (PC § 288a ): Using force, violence, or threats to "force" another person to engage in an act of oral sex.
- Sex Act with a Child under the Age of 10 (PC § 288.7 ).
- Possession, distribution, and production of Child Pornography (PC § 311 ).
- Prostitution (PC § 647(b)): The exchange of sexual favors for money or something else of value.
