Civil Harassment Orders
You are eligible to apply for a Civil Harassment Order if:
Attorneys are often asked what a “credible threat of violence” actually is. The term is given a broad meaning and covers anything another person says, or anything they did which would make a reasonable person afraid for his or her safety, or the safety of his or her family, including physical violence, stalking, and harassing phone calls, text messages and emails.
You are eligible to apply for a Civil Harassment Order if:
- You are the victim of any of these types of activities:
- “Unlawful violence, like assault or battery or stalking, OR
- A credible threat of violence, OR
- Violence or threats which seriously scare, annoy, or harass someone and there is no valid reason for it.”
- AND the other person is:
- one with which you do not have a close relationship with, OR
- A family member who is not immediate family, like an aunt, uncle or cousin.

You are eligible to apply for an Elder Abuse Restraining Order if:

- You need protection for someone:
- Aged 65 or over
- A "defendant adult:" someone between 18-64 with physical or mental limitations that restrict your ability to carry out normal activities or to protect your rights
- A family or household member of one of the above.
- AND someone is abusing the above-referenced person via:
- Physical abuse
- neglect
- financial abuse
- abandonment
- isolation
- abduction, or
- treatment resulting in physical harm, pain or mental suffering.
School Violence Restraining Orders
You are eligible to apply for an School Violence Restraining Order if you are the chief administrative officer or designee of a private post-secondary educational institution, and:

- You need protection for:
- A student,
- A family or household member of a student, or
- In some situations, other students at the campus or facility who are similarly situated.
- ...Based on any of the following grounds:
- A student has suffered a credible threat of violence from any other person, and
- the credible threat of violence, while made off campus/facility, can reasonably be construed to be carried out or have been carried out at the school campus/facility, and
- respondent's conducts is not allowable as a legitimate labor dispute, and
- respondent is not engaged in a constitutionally protected activity.
